PETONE WATER SUPPLY.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE NEW ZEALAND MAIL. Sir.— -" Will you kindly allow me a small space in your valuable paper to make a few remarks on the meeting held at Petone. I see that the Town Board purposes to borrow L 4500 to get a water supply for Petone. The Board intends laying down a 6-inch pipe along the Wainui main, and from that 4 inch pipes up the streets. Mr Higginson in yis report says that there will not be any too much water for the city in a few years, seeing the buildings that are going ■up, and the amount that will -be required for the supply of machinery. 1 think under these circumstances it would be unwise for the Petone Board to
rely on the supply of water from the Wainui main, aa that might be cut off at a very short notice. I would suggest that the Board should get a competent man to see if it is not possible to get a water supply from one or two streams that cross the road leading to Wellington, or some other streams, so as to connect with the pipes laid along the Wainui main. I would strongly advise the Potone Board to try every means to secure water from some other source, pending the possibility of the water being cut off from the Wainui main. —I am, etc., A Petone Ratepayer.
