THE NEW ORGAN, ST ANDREW’S CHURCH.

The managers of St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church some time ago decided to enlarge the organ in that building, and after careful consideration entrusted the addition of another manual, &c., to Mr C. Farrell, organ builder, of Christchurch, who is well and very favorably known, as having erected most of the instruments in the different churches in this city. The alterations, which practically involved the. rebuilding of the instrument, are noiV nearly completed. They comprise a new swell organ, and an additional pedal stop, the completed specification being as under : —Great organ : Open diapason, Bft • horn do, Sft ; liarmouic flute, Sft ; rohr flute, Bft; gamba, Sft ; principal, 4t't ; twelfth, 3fb ; fifteenth, 2fb. Swell organ : Open diapason, Sft ; lieblich gedacfc, Sft tone ; gamba, Gft ; geigeu principal, 4ft ; gemshorn flute, 4ft ; oboe, Sft. Pedal organ : Bourdon lGft, open diapason Sft, couplus, swell to great, great to pedals, swell to pedals, three composition pedals to great organ, two composition padals to swell organ. With the exception of the metal pipes, which were procured from Bryceson Bros., Loudon, the builders of the original organ, all the work has been manufactured in the Colony. It is of the mo3t substantial character, and in finish and appearance is pronounced equal to the work found in important instruments. The whole work lias been executed by MrFarrall. The decoration of the front pipes has been very tastefully done by Mr Alexander Lawson, Cuba-street. The management mu3t be congratulated upon the very satisfactory issue of what may seem a bold step in having the work performed in the Colony, when it is understood that a well-known firm of English builders made it a condition that they should send workmen to carry out a contemplated addition to one of the city church organs. "We understand that Mr Farrell intends to reside permanently in Wellington as an organ builder, and it is to be hoped he may be successful in this latest addition .to our local industries.
