HOSPITAL TRUSTEES.
The Hospital Trustees held their usual fortnightly meeting at the Corporation offices Tuesday afternoon. Present—Messrs F. H. Gaby, J. Luke, C. Willeston, J. Taylor, and T. McKenzie (in the chair). The House Committee’s report was presented. It stated that tbe usual inspection of the institution had resulted satisfactorily. In consequence of the dresser not being able to do the whole of his work, the Committee, to whom the question of his salary was referred, recoinmended that for the present he receive halfsalarv, dating from the Ist inktant. It was stated that he is doing a good deal of his work. The Committee accepted Mr Phil pot’s tender for cutting down and burning gorse. With reference to this matter Mr Luke asked the amount of Mr Philpot’s tender. The Secretary stated that the amount was£ls. Authority was granted to the House Steward to purchase the following articles, which were greatly needed viz., 800yds sheeting, 18 doz. towels, 100yds calico for pillowcases, 100yds coarse red flannel for dres-ing gowns, 50yds kitchen towelling, 6 sheaths for nurses, 8 filters, and 8 doz slippers. The report was put seriatim and adopted. Leave of absence was granted to Mr F. H. Gaby for one month. Mr Luke gave notice of motion for the next meeting, That it is advisable to reduce the number necessary to form a quorum at future meetings. Jn giving notice of motion Mr Luke said that as the Trustees had at present two of their number members of Parliament, and Mr Guby was going away for a time, lie thought that it would be necessary to reduce the quorum, which at present stands at five. A letter was received from Messrs Barry and McDowell, asking for an extension of their lease of part of the Hospital reserve, Pipiteastreet. Referred to the Endowment Committee. A letter was received from Dr Collins reporting on the institution, as requested by the Trustees, and stating that the working of the Hospital was iu every way satisfactory. He concluded by saying that the poor of Wellington are fortunate in having 3uch an institution to go to when they are ill. This report was considered very satisfactory. A letter from Joseph Gridley, the messenger at the Hospital, asking for a rise in his wages, was referred to the House Committee. Other letters of an unimportant nature were dealt with as usual. _______
