London, April 19Two American, three European, and seventeen English firms have tendered lor the New South Wales railway engine contract. An English tender was the slowest. The 'Government of South Australia have agreed to Lord George Hamilton’s defence proposals, with the •consent of the delegates. A South Australian loan is believed tto be imminent. London, April 19. Mr Koberfc Wisdom, one of the New South Wales delegates to the Imperial Conference, has been created & Knight Commander of St. Michael .and St. George. The same honor was offered to Mr Alfred Deakin, of Victoria, but was declined. London, April 20. The Duke of Devonshire has recovered from his reeent illness. The American and French press assume that Mr Parnell after his indignant denial will arraign The Times in a Court of law. Mr Gladstone, in an address to the organisation known as the Eighty Club, declares he never associated the Parnellites with the crime, and it is quite sufficient for Mr Parnell to deny the authenticity of the letter. The Times challenges an inquiry. The newly - dubbed knights are gazetted. London, April 20. Public opinion on the subject of Mr Parnell’s letter is adverse to that gentleman.
