AQUATICS.
On Tuesday evening the final heat of the - Junior Double Sculls (Star Boating Club) was rowed, ths following crews competing: Rylance and Duncan v. Hassell and Hutchinson. The race resulted in a win for the former crew. On the same evening also the first round of the Senior Sculls was pulled off In this heat Cooper beat Bishop by about ten lengths. Copeland scored an easy wm from Bucholz. King rowed against Burns - also, but owing to several fouls taking place in the race the Committee decided that the race should be rowed over again. On Wednesday the second round of the -“Senior Sculls was rowed, when Webb was pitted against Cooper. Cooper got away to a good start, and managed to maintain a lead for about half the distance. He then commenced to steer rather wildly, and eventually Webb came in the winner. The final handicap race between the yachts Xarifa and Florence for the Evening Post trophy will be sailed off on Saturday (tomorrow), starting at a quarter to 3 o clock. 'The third event for the third-class yachts will start a quarter ot an hour earlier. The handicap will be declared at the Pier Hotel ; at 1 o’clock on the day of the race.

THE UNIVERSITY BOAT RACE.

London, March 26. The University boat race was rowed on the Thames to-day, and resulted in Cam■bridge winning by two lengths. London, March 27.
Tbe University boat race was won not by two lengths, as previously telegraphed, but by four lengths. During the race one of tbe Oxford crew broke bis oar.

In the Cambridge and Oxford boat race the former led throughout, and in the final spurt one of the crew broke his oar. Time, 20min 52sec.
[Cambridge University has now won this race 18 times since and inclusive of the contest ot 1840. Oxford has won 22 times .(the race having only been an annual fixture >eince 1856. It is remarkable that for nine from 1861 to 1869—Oxford won each w»ar ; while for the next five years the Light dSlues were unbeaten. There has beon one -dead heat, and that was in 1877. The crew were leading, when the bow -caught a crab, and sprung his oar. Last year tbe Cambridge crew won by twothirds of a length, having been beaten in the previous year by three lengths. The fastest time yet recorded is 19min 3oseo, Cambridge’s time in 1873.]
