New Zealand Mail Office, Thursday Evening. The only vessel that has arrived during the week with cargo is the barque H. J. Libby from New York. She brought about 5000 cases of kerosene for this port, the sales, of which have not been large. They will lmprove, however, &s tne winter approaches. Generally, there is no change to report in quotations. Wines and spirits are as follow Reid’s Dog’s Head ale and stout, Its 6d to 11s 9d for quarts, and 7s 6d to 7s 9d Tor pints. Bass’ ale and Guinness' porter (bottled
by Griffin), 11s for quarts and 7s 6d for pints. Hennessy’s brandy, 35s 6d for one-star ; and Denis Mounie, 31s 6d ; Teacher s and whisky are quoted at 22s 6d, and Walkers Kilmarnock at 20s. In sugar, the Auckland Company’s No. 1 is selling at L2S, No. 2 at L 25 10s, and No. 3at Ll 9 10s. In salt, London fine sells at 70s to SOs, and coarse at 60s. Currants are quoted at s£d to s£d in casea. London sperm candles are quoted at 7t to t gd, and colonial makes as low as 3gd. Oysters by the H. J, Libby are selling at 5s 3d to os Id, STOCK SALES. Dunedin, March 2. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company report (per Mr D. Stronach) as f0110w5276 cattle were yarded. Best bullocks brought L 6 10s to L 8 10s ; one pen, L 9: medium to good, L 4 to 1.6. Beef, los to 17s 6d per 1001 b. Sheep—39o3 were penned ; best crossbreds brought 8s to 9s 9d ; ordinary to good, 4s 6d to 7s ; inferior, Is 9d to 4s; merino ewes and wethers, 2s 3d to 3s 6d; mutton, §d to per lb. There were 903 lambs, which brought 2s 6d to 6s each. There were 122 pigs. Suckers brought 8s to 10s; stores, 18s to 225; porkers, 21s to 325;; baconers, 31s to 455. Christchurch, March 2. Sales were fairly brisk through out. Prime, fat, assorted wethers brought 7s 6d to 10s 6d ; mixed sexes, 7s to 8s ; ewes, 4s 6d to 6s; good fat lambs, 6s to 8s 3d; inferior, 3s 6d to 4s 9d ; mutton, Id to lid per lb. Fat cattle were quiet. Prime bullocks brought L 7 10s. Beef, 15s to 17s 6rl per 1001 b. Digs were in good demand. Borkers brought 22s to 30s. There was fair inquiry for storesheep. 2-tooth crossbreds brought 4s ; aged crossbred ewes for boiling down, Is 5d to Is lOd ; morino do, 9d. .
