THE MIDLAND RAILWAY.

TURNING THE FIRST SOD. (united press association.) Greymouth, January 19. Arrangements for the turning of the first sod of the Midland Railway have been completed. The ceremony will take place on Monday at the junction of the Christohurch and Nelson lines, one and a half miles from the Brunnerton station. The sod will be turned at 3 o’clock in the afternoon by the Hon Mr Richardson. At 6.30 p.'m. on the same day a large company (probably 150), will participate in a banquet at the Volunteer Hall, Greymouth. The meeting will be representative of the Coast, many invitations having been sent to Westport, Hokitika, Reefton and Nelson.
