THE IMPERIAL INSTITUTE.

By Electric Telegraph—Copyright, (reuter’s telegrams). London, January 12. A meeting in connection with the Imperial Institute .was held to-day at St. James’ Palace, under the Presidency of the Prince of Wales. The following resolutions were adopted : “ 1. That the foundation of the Institute would be an emblem of the unity of the Empire, an exponent of its industries and commercial resources, and a fitting national memorial for keeping the Queen’s Jubilee ; 2. That an appeal be made to Her Majesty’s subjects throughout the British Dominions for their generous support to establish and maintain the Institute ; 3. That the best thanks are due to the Prince

of Wales for his exertions in farthering the object in view.” His Royal Highness addressed the meeting, and in the course of his speech expressed the hope that the Institute would assist emigration from the United Kingdom. The leading idea of the Institute was that it should be a centre for extending a knowledge of the resources of the Empire, and be a place for study and resort by colonial producers and consumers. The Queen, his Royal Highness added, would specially value the Institute as a memorial of the love and loyalty of her subjects, as promoting the industrial and commercial resources of the British Dominions, and expressive of the unity and co-agency which Her Majesty desires should prevail throughout all classes and races of the Empire. The Prince, in concluding, acknowledged the resolution thanking him for his exertions, and said that the decisions of the meeting augured well'for the future, and he hoped that the Institute would be made worthy of the name of the Queen and the Empire.
