THE HOMESTEAD SYSTEM.
(united press association.) Dunedin, January 6. The first block of land under the homestead system, containing about 3000 acres* has all been taken up with the exception of 93 acres on the top of a hill. Eight applicants secured their selections unopposed, six allotments were ballotted for, and eight of the unsuccessful applicants took up other areas. The Land Board decided not to receive applications from women for self and children where the husband was alive.
