FIRE AT ROSS.
(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Hokitika, January 10. A fire took place at Ross at 3.30 this morning. It originated in the premises of Mr Brown, baker, Aylmer-street, a large two-story building, which wa3 destroyed. Mr Brown was the only inmate. He was sleeping upstairs, and escaped with difficulty. He was badly injured, and is now in the Hospital. The fire spread to and destroyed the shop of Miss Thomson, milliner, and Mr Coates, barber. The progress of the fire was then stayed, although Mr Moran’s shop and Mr Free’s dwelling were badly damaged. Mr Brown’s injuries are not likely to prove fatal.' He is only insured in the Victoria office for £IOO and in the Colonial for £SO. The other places are not insured. The total loss has not been ascertained.
