SERVING BOYS WITH LIQUOR.

(united press association.) Christchurch, December 9.

The licensee of the Palace and Criterion Hotels was charged at the Resident Magistrate’s Court to-day with allowing intoxicating liquor to be supplied to two boys, 14 and 15°years old. The wife of one licensee, and the barman employed by the other, were charged with supplying the liquor in question. The evidence showed that the youngsters with another boy aged 16, got three halfpints of shandygaff' each, then a bottle of shandygaff, finishing up with some brandy, which another boy fetched them. One got helplessly drunk and another nearly so, but the third, who did not touch the brandy, ran away on the police approaching. The defence was that the licensees'were not liable, a 3 they were both, absent when the boys were served, and that the persons who served them believed them to be over 16 years old. The case was adjourned till Monday.
