AQUATICS.
The fourth heat for the trophies presented ta the Wellington Rowing Club by Mr John "Young was rowed last night week, the course heing from Magazine Point to the Te Aro Baths, and the crews being stroked by Hebbert and Wylde respectively. The latter -took the lead from the start, and was never caught, ultimately winning by two lengths. Jt is only fair to the other crew, however, to say that the steering gear got out of order at the start, causing them to taka a more circuitous course than necessary. The crews were composed as 'follows: —S. Waters (bow), W. Murphy (2), F. Mouat (3), G. R. Wylde (stroke); and R. M. Roberts (bow), T. McKay (2), J. Bennett (3), O. Hebbert (stroke). Mr John Young acted as starter, and Messrs McLean and Scutt as judges. The drawing for the remaining heats resulted as follows : —J. Rickman rows C. B. Robinson to-night at 6 o’clock; G. R. Wylde rows T. R. H. Taylor to-morrow. The two winners will then row off the final heat on , the first fine evening next week. On account of the great success of these races it is probable tbat other contests for fours will take place on an early date. Another Jbeat of the Wellington Rowing dub’s fours the Young trophies was rowed last Friday night between crews stroked by v-JtfessrirßicknSan and Robinson, the former winning by about four lengths. It is only fair to the losing crew to state that the canvas of the bow of their boat was broken, and the "boat was consequently very much waterlogged. The course was from Point Jerning~hf\m to the Te Aro Baths. Mr Young acted *3 starter. . , The race between the Star Bqatmg Club s Challenge Junior Fours took place on Saturday, the competing crews being J. H. Stock (stroke), F. Halse (3), E. C. Smith (2), S. Kennedy (bow); and 0. Colebrook (stroke), E. L. Burnes (3), M. C. Barnett (2), J. Stevenson (bow).' On the word “go ” being given Colebrook’s crew were the first to catch the water, and led for a short distance, "but Stock rowing a very much faster stroke very soon passed them, and won a splendid race by half a length. The course rowed was a njg|J;he#y one from a point beyond the ThorndoS? Baths to a boat moored off the mole pear the Te Aro foreshore, Mr William Fitz Gerald, the captain, acting as judge. Two heats of the Junior pairs were alsa rowed, Johnson and Evans beating Galwey and Ellison, and Gibbons and Richardson beating Harper and Kennedy. Both races -were won easily.
