The R.M.S. Kaikoura sailed last night week" for London, via Rio Janeiro, Madeira, and Plymouth. She is expected to reach Honie about Christmas Day. Her meat chambers contain ' about 18,000 carcases of mutton, and she take 3 a full cargo besides. Her passenger list is a small one, probably owing to the fact that she arrives Home in the middle of winter. A list of her passengers will be found elsewhere. Thexßrunner Coal Company s chartered steamer Rosamond arrived here from Newcastle (N.S.W.) yesterday afternoon week. She brings a cargo of coal for the Brunner Company. Her net tonnage is 460 tons, and her engines are 90 horse-power ; her length is 179 ft 4in, depth 13ft sin, and beam 27ft 7in. The Rosamund is to run in the coal trade between Wellington and Greymouth. The U.S.S. Co.’s ss Wairarapa left Melbourne at 6 pm on the 10th instant, and called at Hobart. She arrived at the Bluff on the 15th inst., and Port Chalmers next day. She left Port Chalmers at 4 pm on the 17th, and Lyttelton at 6.45 pm on the 18th, and arrived here at 7.15 am last Friday. She sailed for Sydney, via East Coast and Auckland, in the evening. The U.S.S. Co’s ss Tarawera left Sydney on the llth instant, and arrived at Auckland at noon on the 16th. She left Auckland on the 18th, called at Gisberne and Napier, and left the latter port for Wellington at 3 pm on Saturday, arriving alongside the Queen’s Wharf at 10.30 am next day. She experienced fine weather. She sailed for Melbourne on Monday. ’ ■ , • - The N.S.S. Co’s ss Australia left Auckland at 6 pin on the 16th. She called at Oreti Point on the 17th, Gisborne on the 18th, and arrived at Napier at 10 pm on Friday. She left Napier at mid-day on Saturday, and arrived here at noon on Sunday. She experienced light southerly winds, accompanied by rain and thick weather, to' arrival here. The U.S.S. Co’s ss Grafton left Westport at 4 am on the 18th, and Nelson at 3 pm last Saturday, and arrived here at 1 am next day, She experienced fine weather throughout the passage. She sailed for the South during the forenoon. The U.S.S. Co’s ss Koranui left Greymouth on the 20th and Nelson on the 21st, and arrived here at 9 am on Tuesday. She had to take shelter under Long Island for 16 hours and at the Frenqh Pass for 8 hours. She made but a short stay in port, leaving again on Wednesday afternoon for the South. The ss Maori berthed alongside the Queen’s Wharf at 9.15 on Tuesday morning. She left Greymouth at 7 pm on the 20th, and had to take shelter from the south-east gale in Queen Charlotte Sound. She returned Tuesday night. The work of compounding the steamer Wallabi’s engines, which has been proceeded with by Messrs Cable and Co, is now finished, and she will take up her running immediately. The ss Kiwi, from Blackhead, arrived alongside the Railway Wharf at 12 20 pm Wednesday. She experienced rough weather throughout the ■passage.'' ‘ The U.S.S. Co’s ss Hawea arrived here at 11.30 am Wednesday. She left Port Chalmers ■ ; at 5.30 pm on tho 22nd, and Lyttelton at 9.30 pm on Tuesday, arriving as above. She experienced variable and unsteady wind throughout the passage. • The U.S.S. Co’s ss Rotorua arrived here at 9.45 am Wednesday. She left Nelson at 7pm on Tuesday, and Picton at 4 am next morning, and experienced strong SE wind and heavy sea across the Straits. She sailed for - South on Wednesday afternoon. The ss Waverley left for Patea on Wednesday, but had to return from the Heads, owing to the heavy sea running and strong head wind. The ss Huia was advertised to leave on Wednesday, but could not do so on account of the weather. The U.S.S. Co’s ss Maitai left Westport at 7 am on Tuesday, and arrived here at 4 15 next evening. She experienced thick weather and moderate winds to Stephen Island, and hard SW gale with very heavy sea to arrival.

ARRIVAL OF THE SHIP TIMARU, FROM LONDON.

The Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company’s ship Timaru, which has been beating about the coast for ths last ten days, arrived at the Heads early last Friday morning, had the pilot aboard at about 4 am, and took up anchorage in the stream at 6 am. Captain Fnllarton reports that the Timaru left London on the sth August, and crossed the equator in ldng 28deg 48min west on the 7th September. She experienced moderate weather till arrival at the Snares on 31st October, but then experienced rough southerly gales. She had since her arrival on this coast been unable to make harbor, owing to the hard NW gale which was blowing. Last Friday merning, however, the wind changed to the SE, giving her a chance to get in. The_ voyage was an uneventful one (except a stabbing case which occurred on the Bth of this month), full particulars of which will be. found in another column. After discharging 400 kegs of gunpowder, the Timaru was towed round to the Queen’s Wharf by the Mana. She brought out a quantity of gun-cotton, : a locomotive, a stone-crusher, and other machinery for the Government.

ARRIVAL OF THE BARQUE CORMORANT.

The barque Cormorant, 1073 tons, Captain Hume, left Liverpool at 2.30 pm on August sth, the wind being from WSW to WNW and very unsteady. She passed the Scilly Islands on the 10tb August, and on the llth had a heavy SW gale, which, lasted two days, the ship laboring heavily and shipping large quantities of water. On the 13th August the wind hauled to the •westward, and the ship was then able to start on her southerly course. She took NE trades in 28deg N 28deg W, which were moderate, and gave out in 18deg N ; had variable winds from thence to the Equator, which she crossed on September 7th. in 31deg W ; then had SE to SSE squally wind, which drove the ship on the coast of Brazil. At 8.30 pm, September 10th she struck very lightly on the edge of a reef to the NW of Cape San Roque, and lost 5 days beating off the coast. Had brisk SE trades, which were lost in 24deg S, 32deg W, then variable winds to the meridian of Greenwich, which was crossed on October 3rd, 59 days out. Then had a _ SE gale which lasted 5 days, the wind still keeping from SE to SSE for several days. The Cormorant passed the meridian of the Cape of Good Hope on the 10th, and had then_ moderate westerly winds to the Crozets, which she passed on the 17th in 46deg S lOOdeg E. While running before a SW gale she shipped a heavy sea, completely smashing the starboard quarter boat. Had strong SW to NW winds to the meridian of Cape Leeuwin, which was crossed in 47deg S November Ist, making the easting on the mean parallel of 46deg S. Crossed the meridian of Tasmania on the Sth November in 47deg 45min S; passed the Snares on the llth with a heavy N W gale and cross sea, causing the ship to labor heavily and ship a large quantity of water, smashing the after hatch, and filling the houses and cabin with water. Saturday. The Cormorant has been beating around the coast since Thursday last week, and could not make harbor owing to the strong head winds blowing. She took up her anchorage in the stream on Saturday afternoon. Her agents in Wellington are Messrs Johnston and Co.

THE AR AW A AT POUT CHALMERS

(united press ASSOCIATION.) f Port Chalmers, November 21. The s.s. Aiuivh arrived from Plymouth at 10 a.m. to-day. She brings 2000 tons of cargo and 457 passengers for New Zealand ports, having landed at Hobart 115 passengers chiefly for Australia. Her passengers for the Colony comprise 52 saloon, 50 second-saloon, 115 thirdclass, and 240 immigrants. She also brings Mr Colin Allan, Immigration Officer, of Dunedin, who returns from the Old Country, together ■with the Australian cricketers under Mr Atkinson. The Arawa's passage from Plymouth, exclusive of stoppages in ports, has occupied 39 days 13 hours and 40 minutes, and inclusive of stoppages 41 days 9 hours 42 minutes. The health of the passengers has been good, the only casualty being the death of an infant of three months. Hr Dwyer comes as surgeon superintendent, and Miss Warner as matron. The Arawa proceeds North on Wednesday.
