(united press association.) Auckland, October 28. Subscriptions are being raised amongst the men of the port for the defence of Caffrey. Statements having been published purporting to have been made by the prisoners to interviewers, the gaol authorities state that no such interviews have taken place, the only persons who have yet had access to the aecused being their counsel. Auckland, October 29.

Mr O’Meagher has been retained for the defence of Caffrey, by the seamen of the port. Messrs Henderson and Spraggon, owners of the Sovereign of the Seas, had an interview with Caffrey to-day at the gaol. Auckland, November 2.

Mr Napier, counsel for Penn, contemplates appealing for a change of venue in his case. Penn’s mother had an interview with him to-day. The girl Graham has made a statement to the Crown Prosecutor.
