LAND BOARD.
At the üßual fortnightly meeting of the Land Board, held yesterday, there were present —Messrs J. YV. A. Marchant (in the chair), W. W. McCardle, H. Bunny, W. A. Fitzherbert. The schedule of lands showed that 1075 acres 2 roods 35 perches had been sold since last meeting at an upset price of £667 17s lid. Mr P. Hennaghan applied to be allowed to capitalise payments on section 24, Block IX., Pohangina. Approved. An application was received from Mr R. H. Reaney for permission to transfer section 56, Block 1,, Makuri, to John King. Mr C. W. Roberts applied to transfer section 1, Block IV., Mangahoa, to L. Luoni. Approved. The Commissioner asked the ruling of the Board as to whether a selector on the perpetual lease system could take up another section contiguous to his own. Approved. The Alfredton Road Board submitted proposals for the expenditure of deferred payment and perpetual lease thirds accrued to them. Approved, with the exception of payments from section 20. The Commissioner submitted the question of cancelling licenses of section 10, Block 111., YVairoa, and section 1, Block IV., Omahine, and sections weighted with the improvements. Approved. Mr D. Hewitt applied for land under the homestead system in the Wairarapa. It was decided to inform the applicant that there was no land open on that system. With regard to Mr R. H. Elliott’s application for Crown Lands near the Piripiri Native Reserve, the Commissioner reported that there is no road access to the land. To stand over. The Undersecretary for Crown Lands wrote with reference to the publication of plans of Crown and Native lands, etc., and stated that the Government did not consider it advisabletoapprove of the proposal, owing to the expense, and that sufficient publicity is already given fbo land sales. It was decided to let the matter stand over till next meeting. Mr W. L. Adams wrote denying the statements of Mr Simpson as to his being in partnership with Mr Phillip3on in per-
| petual lease, section 2, Block IV, Kaiwhata. ' The Board decided to inform Messrs Simpson and Ferrers of Mr Adams’ letter. The Chief Commissioner submitted proposals from the Wanganui Harbor Board, forwarded through the Surveyor-General, to expend certain money on road clearing, &c, in their block, with a view to offering 2853 acres for sale, under the cash system. The proposals were approved by the Board. Mr Dwan appeared for the selector of section 11, Block IV, Makuri, with regard to his improvement being in arrears. The Board informed Mr Dwan that as the improvements had been started no further action would be taken at present. The Commissioner submitted proposals for offering Crown lands on the sea coast between the Manawatu and Whenuakura Rivers. Approved. The Commissioner asked the Board to approve of offering the abandoned' Crown lands in the Maaterton-Mangahoa Block for perpetual lease at an early date. Approved. Mr L. Lnoni applied for information as te section 50, Block 1., Makuri. The applicant waß informed by the Commissioner that the Government had given instructions to offer the section to the next highest tenderer, the present highest tender being ineligible. The Board then adjourned.
