The Elektron Mount Gold Mining Company, Queensland, has been floated with a capital of £70,000. Mr E. Stanhope, in replying to a question respecting the New Hebrides, implied that the settlement of the question would include evacuation. The Royal Commissioners have passed a vote of thanks to Sir P. C. Owen, the Secretary of the Exhibition, and also to the British public for the hospitality extended to colonial visitors. The Conservative Conference which is being held at Bradford recognise the supreme importance of Imperial Federation, and opinions were expressed that efforts for its universal adoption should be an article of the Conservative faith. The Earl of Dunraven declared that the only other alternative to Federation would be to increase the Army and Navy. A gang of fourteen Moonlightershave been arrested at Clare. London, October 27.

Lord Bandolph Churchill, in a, speech on the condition of Ireland,, stated rents were being fairly paid,, and there was a marked decrease in crime. The Government, he said, did not intend to grant Home Eule. An important city meeting hasbeen held here, presided over by Sip IY. Macarthur, at which a resolution was carried urging tho annexation, of Zululand. (renter's telegrams.) London, October 27.. Sir Graham Berry, Agent-General for Victoria, had an interview to-day with the Secretary of State for the Colonies with reference to affairs in the New Hebrides. Mr Stanhope expressed himself as positive that an early settlement would be arrived at. He stated that the Blue Book containing the correspondence which had passed between the English and French Governments relative to the New Hebrides was nearly completed, and would be ready for publication at an early date. Capetown, October 26. A body of Kafirs from Pqndoland have invaded Besibeland (sic), and burned several kraals in that district. A further force of 10,000 Pondos has assembled on the borders. The Cape Government in consequence of this outbreak are raising a Volunteer force for active service. '

He deprecated the idea of England commit"ting herself to positive action with reference to affairs in Eastern Europe. He stated that satisfactory accounts liad been received as to the state of Ireland generally, and the Cabinet -would decide whether to apply to Parliament for special measures to be applied to certain districts of that country.

Calcutta, October 26.

Sir West Ridgeway, who arrived at Cabul yesterday, was personally received by the Ameer to-day and entertained in a sumptuous manner. Many -of the border chiefs were present. The Ameer assured the British Commissioner of his loyalty to the British <3-overnment. . The Times to-day, in a leading article on the Imperial Institute, strongly deprecates South Kensington being chosen as the site for the building. Madeira., October 28.

The New Zealand Shipping Company’s E.M.S. Aorangi, which left Plymouth October 23rd, arrived this morning en route for Auckland and Wellington.

THE IMPERIAL INSTITUTE.

A small charge will be made for -admission to the Imperial Institute, to I>e applied to the maintenance of the ■various Courts. The Exhibition Executive generally are disposed to store the exhibits here until June. Sir Samuel Davenport deplores the absence of the Adelaide: exhibits at the opening of the Institute. London, October 27. The Times strongly opposes the proposed site for the Imperial Institute at Kensington. It was also assured that the colonies did not desire the Institute to be a mere popular exhibition.

London, October 27.

The meeting of the Executive Commissioners and the Agents-General of the colonies for the purpose of discussing the proposed Imperial Institute was held yesterday. A vote of thanks was accorded to the Prince of Wales, to whom the success of the Exhibition was largely due, and much regret was expressed at the groundless attacks which had been made on Sir Phillip Cunliffe Owen, late Chairman of the Commissioners of the Exhibition.

Sir Graham Berry has summoned a meeting of the Colonial AgentsGeneral, to be held to-morrow, in order to compile a telegram of advice to their Governments relative to the Imperial Institute.
