The steeplechaser Betrington, which was bronght here on Monday by the Hod R. Rodney, of Christchurch, die'd suddenly. The owner intended riding the horse to the Lakes. Auckland, October 23.
The Pakuranga Hunt Club’s Steeplechase Meeting was held to-day at Ellerslie, where there was a good attendance. The following are the results. Members’ Light-weight Handicap Hurdles —La Petite Fill**, 1 ; Miss Griffiths," 2 ; Jim, 3. Pakuranga Hunt Club Handicap—Huntsman, 1; Reform, 2; Fair Play, 3. Farmers’ Plate Hawthorn, 1 ; Fly, 2. Melrose was disqualified for crossing. Members’ Light-.veight Steeplechase Handicap Reform, 1 ; Artist, 2. Open Steeplechase— Fair Play, 1 ; Falcon, 2 ; Tourist, 3. Members’ Handicap Hurdles—Quilp, 1 ; Miss Griffith?, 2. Ladies’ Bracelet —Lone Hand, 1 ; Falcon, 2 ; Quilp, 3. The racing was excellent, the events being well contested and the jumping good.
