THE STARK PURCHASE INQUIRY.

Auckland, October 21. At the Stark Purchase Inquiry to-day, Mr D. Chambers, Secretary of the Vigilance Committee, in his. evidence made some strong reflections on certain members of the Government. Mr David Goldie, Chairman of the Vigi'ance Committee, referred to interviews between Ministers and ivir Stark at Waiwera. He believed that the loss to the public through the transaction amounted to £9OOO. October 25.
At. the Stark Purchase Inquiry evidence for the Vigilance Committee was practically closed. The evidence of Mr Allison was partly heard, after which that of Mr Brewer and Mr Seaman is expected to be taken. Auckland, October 27. The Stark Purchase Commissioners closed the inquiry this morning. Mr Cotter, representing Mr Stark and Mr Alison, applied for costs against the Vigilance Committee. The Commissioners said that that body was not recognised in the matter. It would be for the Government to determine the question of costs. The decision of the Commissioners would not be made known, until they returned to Wellington..
