TAWA ELAT.

October 18. The remains of the late John Morgan were borne to their last resting place, the cemetery at Tawa Fiat, to-day (Monday), when a very large number of friends assembled from Wellington and all parts of the district to pay the last tribute of respect to the deceased. Amongst those assembled the most noteworthy were the captain, lieutenant, and sergeant of the Salvation Army, the Rev Mr Potter, and the officers and Brothers of the Loyal Kinapoura Lodge. Before the procession, started the Oddfellows marched from their Lodge-room to the house of their deceased brother, where their Lecture Master (Secretary Greer) read a farewell address, written for the occasion. The deceased was.then borne out by them and placed on a bier in front of the house ; the Captain of the Salvation Army gave out some very appropriate hymns, which were sung, and, after a very impressive prayer, the procession started for the cemetery. The Rev Mr Fancourt conducted the burial service, after which permission was given to the Oddfellows to read their funeral service. The Oddfellows then drew close to the grave and performed their last duty to their muchbeloved departed brother. The deceased was one of the first few (some thirty yearsago) to establish the above lodge, and ever since then he lias always been found at his post doing good service for hislodge. He has filled the various offices agreat number of times, and he was consequently a P.G. The deceased was one of the first settlers in Wellington, having arrived about 45 years ago with his father and mother and other six of a family ; consequently he had to battlethrough the hardships of the ' early settlers. He was 53 years old, and leaves a wife and sixteen children to mourn his loss. He was much respected by a large circle of friends.
