LAND BOARD
The usual fortnightly meeting of the Land Board was held in the Crown Lands Office yesterday morning. Present—Messrs J. W. A. Marchant (in the chair), H. Bunny, A. Reese, W. A. • Fitzherbert, and W. W. McCardle. The schedule of lands showed that 3127 acres 1 rood 6 perches had been sold Bince last meeting at an upset price of £BO9 Bs. The Commissioner informed the Board that Mr McCardle had been reappointed a member. The selector of section 1603, Block IN., Kowanga, explained why his improvements had not been effected. Extension of time was granted. An application was-received from Mr J. S. Harrison, selector of section 22, Block IX,, Pohangina, who asked to capitalise his unpaid instalments. Approved of. The lessee of small run No. 15, Monohaki, wrote abandoning the sama. The Board resolved to ask what improvements have been effected, and declare section forfeited after 60 days, and accept the selector's
.abandonment of the run. Mr A. Alexander, lessee of small run No. 27, Tikomaru Block, , applied to transfer the same to M r E. A. Campbell. Approved of. The Mauriceville Road Board submitted proposals for the expenditure of .deferred payment and perpetual lease thirds accrued to the Board. Approved of. The •Upper Wangaehu Koad Board submitted proposals for the expenditure of fourths from small run payments accrued to the Board Approved of. Proposals were forwarded from the Ekatahuna Road Board for the expenditure of deferred payment thirds, &c., accrued to the Board. Approved of. The Pahiatua Road Board submitted proposals for the expenditure of deferred payment thirds. Approved. The Alfredton Road Board made proposals for the expenditure of deferred payment thirds, which were approved of. The Kiwitea Road Board applied for deferred payment thirds accruing on the Fielding Special Settlement Blocks. Approved of. An application was received from the Mauriceville Road Board for authority to use accrued thirds to repay loans raised on the Local Bodies Loan Act. Approved of. Details to be supplied. Mr F. J. Hamilton applied to be considered the lessee of section 5, Block XVI, Mangaboa, his application having been delayed in Christchurch. The Board decided to inform the applicant that the claim cannot be recognised. A letter was received from Mr B. Gallagher with reference to Mr Fullex’s claim for part of the compensation for improvements -‘effected on Crown lands near Greytown North, and stated that the claim was without foundation. It was decided to let the matter stand over for the present. Mr G. Beetham wrote suggesting that the 41fredton Recreation Reserve should be vested in the Road Board, Alfredton, and that the balance of the town sections be offered for sale. It was decided to let the matter of the reserve stand over until the Government approved of it. The Board decided to schedule the town sections for sale. The Crown Lands Ranger reported on the island in the Rangitikei River applied for by Mr Mackenzie. The Board resolved to offer the land as a small run. The Crown Lands Ranger forwarded a report on the Crown lands along the sea coast between the Manawatu and Waitotara- rivers. It wa3 resolved to forward report and plans !o the Government, with a recommendation that the suggestion be carried out. The application of Messrs McQuarrie Bros., Alfredton, for a fencing boundary was again considered. It was decided to defer the matter until the Government decides as to the recreation reserves adjoining. Messrs G. Simpson and B. de Ferrers wrote with reference to Mr Adams obtaining section 4, Block IV., Kaiwhata. Specific particulars to be furnished, when Mr Adams will be asked to explain. Mr H. Axup applied for about 300 acres of Crown lands as a small run up the Pohangina River near his preseat small run. It was resolved to ask the Government to approve employment of private surveyors, survey to be made with due regard to other Crown lands. The question of reoffering section 50, Block I, Makuri, on deferred payments was again considered, and it was decided to inform Mr Greville that the Board considered it had no power to grant the request, and to ask Mr Greville to point out where the power is. The matter will be further considered at next meeting. The question of Mr J. McLelian’s improvements on Crown lands, Pahiatua, was again brought before the Board for consideration. It was decided to allow the local bodies to deal with the case. The Commissioner, Mr McCardle, moved that sections 1 and 2, Block VI, Miki miki, be offered for sale separately. Carried.
