MEETING OF CHEMISTS.
(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Christchurch, September 29. At a meeting of chemists and druggistß, held tc-night, recommendations were adopted, to be submitted to the Australasian Pharmaceutical Society’s meeting, to be held in Melbourne in October, by the delegate for the
South Island. The meeting considered that uniformity of pharmaceutical education throughout Australasia is desirable, and that an examination in general knowledge should be passed before apprenticeship, which should be four years. They were of opinion that lectures in pharmaceutical chemistry should be arranged for in connection with the New Zealand University, and that there should be uniform legislation in all the colonies to regulate pharmaceutical affairs and the sale, and custody of poisons ; that the sale of poisons by other than registered chemists, if allowed, should be as restricted a 3 possible consistent with public convenience ; and that the laws regulating the sale of poisons should apply to patent and proprietory medicines containing poisons.
