The Hon Mr Ballance received a number ■of deputations this morning, and, with Mr Dundon, made the final arrangement in connection with the village settlement scheme at Hokianga. Important arrangements were also made regarding special settlements in the Tuakua District. There are 26 settlers willing to take np land there on a 3000 acres block, and i 9500 acres of broken land is to be leased in runs of 600 acres each, at 3d per acre, on tbe perpetual leasing system. Another block there, containing 10,000 acres of agricultural land, will be opened for special settlement. The Government will also try to acquire 30,009 acres of good land in the same district which is still in native hands.
Mr Ballance leaves Onehunga at 3 p.rc. today for Taranaki, whence he goes overland to Wellington.

The Premier returns to Wellington at the end of next week to attend a full meeting of the Cabinet to be held early in October.
