Sydney, September 23

-•The meat market remains unchanged, beef selling at 32s per 1001 b, and mutton at 2£d per lb. September 24.

iNew .Zealand wheat is selling at 4s 3d per bushel, New Zealand oats 2s 6d per bushel, maize 3s 3d per 561 b. The Sugar Compauy’s No. 1 pieces, L 25 per ton. ; London, September 21.

. Af the colonial wool auctions to-day 14,200 bales were offered. The tone of the market continues strong.

Three per cent. Consols are quoted at lOOJg The Bank rate remains at 3 per cent., and the market rate 2i per cent. New Zealand 5 per cent. 10-40 loan, 101 ; 4J per cent. New Zealand, 5-30 loan, 99£ ; New Zealand 4 per cent, inscribed stock, 98£. September 22. At the wool sales to-day, 13,800 bales were offered. The totie of the market is strong.

New Zealand securities remain unchanged. New Zealand prime mutton is selling at from 4Jd to 4Jd per lb. 'Australian beef tallow is selling at 23’s 6d per cwt, and mutton tallow at 265. The homeward mails per Messageries Maritimes s.s. Yarra, which left Melbourne on August 14, were delivered in London to-day via Marseilles.

Consols remain at IOO^. The Bank of England weekly returns show the total reserve of notes and bullion to be £12,800,000, an increase of £200,000 during the week. The proportion of reserve to liabilities has been reduced to 48 per cent. At the wool sale to-day 15,500 bales were offered, and a strong tone again prevailed. Fine greasy crossbreds are now ruling at 2d to 24d higher than at the close of the July sates. Coarse crossbreds are l|d to 2d higher. Since the opening of the present series the withdrawla from sale have amounted to 1200 bales. London, September 24. The total quantity of wheat afloat for the United Kingdom is 1,670,000 quarters, being an increase of 20,000 quarters for the week. The mails per Orient Steam Navigation Company’s R.M.S. Austral, which left Melbourne 20th August, were delivered in London to-day. London, September 25. The New Zealand Shipping Company’s R.M.S. Tongariro left Plymouth this afternoon for Auckland, via Teneriff’e. Consols are quoted at 101-i, an advance of J. Adelaide wheat, ex store, remains at 355, and New Zealand at 28s to 345. Adelaide flour remains at 245, ex store.

The tone of the wool sales is quieter. The catalogue at to-day’s sale comprised 12,000 bales. September 26.

Wheat Market. —Wheat is weaker, Australian prices being barely maintained. New Zealand prices tend in buyers’ favor. English parcels are averaging 31s 3d. Wool Market. — Good qualities maintain highest prices. Crossbreds are hardening; faulty wools are slightly lower. 214,000 bales have been catalogued, and 1900 withdrawn. Adelaide, September 27. The Orient Steam Navigation Company’s R.M.S. Orient, which left Plymouth August 20th, arrived here this afternoon.

London, September 24. The fifth series of wool sales commences on 23rd November.

The oranges by the John Elder, from Sydney, have arrived in poor condition, and have been sold at a loss.

Sydney, September 27.

Arrived—Union Company’s Manapouri, from Auckland, last evening ; and Tekapo, from Wellington, yesterday morning. Sailed—Same Company’s Wakatipu, for Wellington, on Saturday evening.

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Limited, have received the following telegram from their London office, dated 24th inst: 0 0l.—The market for crossbreds and erossbrd lambs is firmer ; but for faulty scoured medium and inferior clothing washed, and short staple merino heavy in grease the market ia easier. Competition on French account is fairly active. _JTp.. to date 191,000 bales have been sold. Tallow Market dull. Good mutton is worth 255, and ditto beef 22s per cwt. respectively.
