NEW CHURCH AT NAPIER.

(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Napier, September 29.

The foundation stor.e of the new St John 3 Church was laid to-day by the Bishop of Waiapu, in the presence of a large assemblage of clergy and laity. The church is to cost £IO,OOO without the tower, and will be the largest church in the Colony. It will be larger than Christchurch Cathedral as it now stands, and very little less than the Cathedral when the latter is completed. It will seat comfortably eleven hundred people in the main building, in addition to a eide-chapel, which is to he built as a memorial to the late Bishop William*. The materials are brick ia a concrete foundation, the interior being finished in bevvy woodwork.
