THE CABLE RATES.

(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Auckland, September 2. Respecting the cable subsidy and ratee, and the resolution forwarded by the Wellington Chamber of Commerce, the Auckland Chamber decided to-day to leave the matter in the hands of the Government, who are understood to be making an offer of arrangements, which they are hopeful will bring about a reduction of the rates.

mu /-n. , , Dunedin, September 6. Ihe Chamber of Commerce have appointed a committee to bring up a report on *a commnnication from Victoria to endeavor to secure a reduction of cable rates. A telegram has been sent to the Wellington Chamber, intimating a willingness to urge the Government to co-operate with Australia in securing a reduction .of the present rates, failing which to obtain the concession of five words as a minimum, with 3d per word for Press messages.
