ENGLISH POLITICS.

By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (beuteb’s telegrams.) London, August 5. It has transpired that a meeting of the supporters of the Marquis of Hartington was held yesterday at Devonshire House, Piccadilly. Lord Hartington spoke, and deprecated hostility on the part of Unionists towards Mr Gladstone and his followers. The Liberals, he added, would remain united on all questions except the Irish question. Mr Chamberlain and other Union leaders expressed approval of the remarks of Lord Hartington. The Imperial Parliament met today for the election of Speaker, when Mr Arthur W. Peel was again chosen to fill that office.

Mr Parnell addressed a meeting at Dublin last night, and in the course of his speech said that Mr Gladstone’s Home Rule Bill was the only measure that would be acceptable to the Irish people. He demanded that the rents for land in Ireland should be greatly reduced.
