ACCIDENTS. (united pbess association.) Auckland, August 5. William Ryan, bushman, at Slatters Bust, Helensville, was killed by a tree falling on him, to-day. Deceased leaves a wife and three children. On Monday evening Mr William Hassell, storekeeper, accompanied by a Native, left Herds Point, Hokianga, for home in boat. The boat was picked up five miles down the river with the sail dragging in the water. Mr Russell never reached home. The police and other boats are eut searching. There is little hope, however, of their safety. Dunedin, August 5.
The sou of a plumber named Alex. Clough, and a boy named Joseph Coupler were severely injured by au explosion at the gas works. Clough was engaged in charging a receiver for the purpose of generating hydrogen, when he incautiously lit a match, and an explosion followed. Clongh was much injured about the face.
