New Zealand Mail Office, Thursday Evening. Business has continued to lie extremely dull during the past week. Retailers are contenting themselves with small purchases to meet immediate requirements, and there have been no large transactions. Prices continue the some as those quoted last week in our fourweekly summary. There has been no rush for the first of the new season’s tea, which arrived per Tamsui, from Foochow. No cargoes from other than colonial ports have arrived in Wellington during the week, the only vessel arriving from England being the s.s. Aorangi, from Plymouth, via Port Chalmers. She, however, landed no cargo here, but went on. to Auckland after landing passengers and mails. There is no change in the price of colonial produce, grain and flour being at the same rates as last week.

STOCK SALES. Christchurch, duly 21. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) report per Mr E. Gr. Staveley as follows : At Addington yards to day, about 6000 sheep were yarded. There were few prime fat sheep. Best sorts maintained their values, but medium and inferior declined. Mutton brought lid to 2£ per lb. Best wethers 11s to 13s 6d ; mixed sexes Ss 3d to 12s 9d ; light weights 6s to 7s 6d; ordinary merino wethers 5s to 8s 9d. Cattle were dull. Stores brought nominal prices. The prices of fat cattle were unaltered. Beef brought 18s to 22s per 1001 b; fat bullocks L 5 5s to L 9 each. Cows and heifers went to L 8 10s. There was a large entry of pigs and sale was quiet, values being without change. Dunedin, July 21. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company report (per Mr D. Stronach) as follows : Cattle —145 were yarded to-day. Best bullocks brought L 7 15s to LlO 12s 6d ; light and medium L 3 17s 6d to L 7 10s 6d ; beef 22s 6d per 100 lb. Sheep—lßo7 were penned. Best cross-bred ewes and wethers brought 9s 3d to 12s 3d ; light and medium 6s to 8s ; merino wethers 6s ; mutton IJd to Ifd per lk. Pigs —porkers brought 14s to 21s ; baconers 30s to 48s ; extra heavy to 565.
