THE MIDLAND RAILWAY.
(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Christchurch, July 20. Mr Maitland Gardner, of this city, has received a letter from his brother, Mr Richard Gardner, who is coming oat as engineer-in-chief to Messrs McKeone and Robinson contractors for tbe first section of the Midland Railway. He probably leaves London on July 29th, per Ruapehu, bringing with him a considerable staff. From the letter it appears that the contract is for 2d m*let> we3t from Springfield. . From father details to hand respecting the Midland Railway, it seems certain tha. work will be commenced at Bruonerfcoa, proceeding in both directions along the line of the Grey River towards Reefccn and along the Arnold River ia the direction oE Christchurch.
