THE MUSIC OF LABOR.

By S. K, MUNKITTRICK. Thore is soft music rippling through all labor, There is a tender symphony in toil, A melody as sweet as pipe and tabor That makes bright dreams about the worker coil. . , . The blacksmith as he wields the heavy hammer ,_ And spreads the sparks and makes the anvil ring, Hears notes which ease his daily task and glamoi His soul with joys that visit not the king. The miller pouring grain into his hopper Hears busy airs which cheer him to excess, Airs sweeter far than those of brass and copper— To him the tune of comfort and success. And then In autumn hear the merry thrashers Play jolly medleys on the old barn floor. All hear the milkmaid work the old churn dashers With smiles beside the honeysuckled door, lheu hear the honest music of the builders The notes which jc fleer them while they work to thrive ; And hear the bees whose industry bewilders Us all with wonder as we watch the hive. They know soft music’s rippling through all labor, Aud that a tender symphony's in toil— A melody as sweet as pipe and tabor That makes bright dreams about the worker coil. _
