The recent suicide of the King of Bavaria has caused considerable, excitement in Bavaria, and sinister rumors are current concerning tne mew King. Bishop Moorhouse will be allowed to have a suffragan. Sir John Hall has complained of the silence of the English leaders regarding French aggression in the Pacific. Obituary Sir Alexander Stuart, formerly Premier of New South Wales, and who was acting as Executive Commissioner for that Colony at the Indian-Colonial Exhibition, aged 61. The wool sales opened to-day. The joint catalogue ot Messrs Charles Balme and Jacomb and Co , comprise 12,700 bales, one third of which are New Zealand wool and one-third from New South Wales. There was a large attendance of bidders, and the bidding was excited. Merinos show am advance upon last sales of 20 to 25 per cent., and crossbreds range from 5 to 15 per cent. Foreign buyers are making large purchases. , (REOi'ER’S TELEGRAMS.) London, June 17. A meeting of the Royal Colonial Institute took place last evening, the Marquis of Lome being iu the chair. Amongst those present were Sir George Bowen, Sir John Hall, Sir W. J. Clark, Bart, Sir W. L. Dobson, and Mr Graham Berry. In the course of a speech on the occasion, Sir George Bowen emphasised the necessity for Imperial federation, owing to the rapid growth of the colonies. In view of the approaching general election the Conservative party have decided to nominate a candidate for Midlothian in opposition to Mr Gladstone. London, June 15. Consols have declined by -i, and are to-dav quoted at The market rate of discount has fallen jr, and is mow at I£, or 1|- below the Bank rate. Adelaide wheat, ex store, remains at 3-ss.
