HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting of the Hutt County Council was held Tuesday morning at the Council s office. There were presaut —Messrs Perkins, (in the chair). Chew, Taylor, Speedy, Brown, Wakeham, Monaghan, Jones and Faulkner. A letter was received from the Secretary of the Clutha County CeuDcil to the effect that the Sheep and Rabbit Act _ required amendment, and requesting the aid of the Council in urging the House of Representatives to effect an amendment. The letter then stated that Inspectors should be done away with, and the money paid to them expended in payment of bonus for rabbit skins, young and old. It also said that Inspectors were only required in districts where scab existed. A letter was received from the Chairman of the Joint Committee, in which it was stated that a Joint Committee had been appointed by the Houses of Assembly to make inquiries as to the best method of dealing with the rabbit nuisance. A series of questions were forwarded by the Joint Committee on the subject. The Colo nial Secretary wrote, drawing the attention to an Order in Council published in the New Zealand Gazette, extending the times for the preparation of all county rolls under the Counties Act of 1876. The Inspector’s report was read aud adopted. The report stated that considerable damage had been done to the road in Ngahauranga Gully through the severe storm that had lately passed over the district. There had been a heavy land slip, covering the road for two chains. Tbe Inspector reported having the road ready for traffic again. The Inspector was instructed to obtain legal opinion as to whether the quarrymen employed in the Ngahauranga Gully are entitled to throw their refuse into the stream, thereby causing great injury to the main road. On the motion of Mr Taylor, seconded by Mr Chew, it was resolved that public notice Bhould be given to the effect that all persons travelling with vehicles on country roads after sundown without lights, and all persons with vehicles or horses going over bridges at other than a walking pace, be prosecuted. The Clerk was instructed to communicate with Mr Wilson, M.H.R., expressing the views of the Council on the new Counties Act. On the motion of Mr Taylor, seconded by Mr Chew, the sum of £231 11s 3d was passed for payment, This terminated the meeting.
