Palmerston North, May 27A crowded public meeting was held last night, the Mayor in the chair, at which.* resolutions were unanimously passed affirm"--\-ing the desirableness of an early completion ' of railway communication between Palmerbton aud Woodville ; asking the Government to vote a sum f r the construction of a road between Palmerston and Pahiatua ; tbe erection of new post aod telegraph offices, and a new railway station; and expressing the necessity of having the imposition of Is per ton at the Foxtou railway station removed; of appointing a resident Palmerston Returning Officer for the electoral district ; and of having the Road Boards Act so amended as to allow either of the two Boards to take control of any road passing through eacii ot the two districts from one centre to another. It was resolve 1 to forward the resolutions to the member, Mr D. FI. Macar.hur, for presentation to the Government.
