THE DIRECT STEAMERS.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE HEW ZEALAND MAIL. Sir, —It has occurred to me that a great boon would be granted to intending visitors to the Indian and Colonial Exhibition, were the Steam Shipping Company to make an arrangement among themselves, whereby passengers could go Home by one route and return by another, e.g., one might like to go Home by direct steamer or via San Francisco, and return, say, by the Orient Line, or vice versa. As far as I can see, it would make not the slightest difference to the shipping companies, but would certainly be a great convenience and inducement to intending visitors. Hoping, Mr Editor, that you may see your way to commend this idea, —I am, &c.,

An Intending Visitor.
