THE LOWER HUTT TARRING AND FEATHERING CASE.
The above circumstance, which has formed a topic for conversation for some days past, promises to be more fully investigated, as Mr S. Muir on Wednesday swore an information against James Walden. The prosecutor alleged that he had been tarred and otherwise grievously ill-treated, and he swore the information against Walden as one of the principals in the assault. The latter was arrested Wednesday, and brought before Mr Wardell, R.M., charged with “that he did on the 19th August last, at the Lower Hutt, place his leg across the throat of one Sydney Nimmo Muir, whilst the said Sydney Nimmo Muir was lying prostrate from a blow previously inflicted upon him by the said James Walden, or by some other person then in the company of the said .James Walden, and did attempt to rsnder the said Sydney Nimmo Muir incapable of resistance, whilst other assaults were being committed upon hia person.” On the implication of DetectiveInspector Browne, accused was remanded until Tuesday next, bail being allowed in two sureties of £IOO each, Messrs J. E. Hayes and T. Hodgins entering into recognizance for the appearance of accused on the date the case will be heard.
