CITY COUNCIL ELECTION.
The nomination of candidates to serve as City Councillors for the four Wards of the city took place on Tuesday at noon. The only XVard where a poll will have to be taken is Tborndon, only one gentleman having been nominated in each of the other three Wards, thus proving that very little interest is evinced in the elections. The candidates who are unopposed will be declared elected on the l€tn instant, the date fixed for the polling. The following are the nominations :—Cook Ward—J. C. Edwards, proposed by Mr W. Dawson and seconded by Mr Joseph Kitchen ; Mr H. M. Lyon, Returning Officer. Te Aro —John Smith, juu, proposed by Mr T. Whitehouse, seconded by Mr S. Startup ; Mr J. Chappie, Returning Officer. Lambton Ward —Samuel Danks, proposed by Mr S. OWilson, seconded by Mr A. McLeod ; Mr J. Page, Returning Officer. Thorndon Ward— W:H. Warren, proposed by Mr C. P. Powles, seconded by Mr G. Anderson ; O. T. Benzoni, proposed by Mr R. Burrott, seconded by Mr J. N. Salmon ; Mr A. G. Johnson, Returning Officer.
