(REUTER'S TELEGRAMS.) Melbourne, September 2. Correspondence extending over a period of 18 months, between the Hon Mr Sargood and Colonel Disney, Commander of the Victorian Eorces, was laid upon the table in the Legislative Assembly last night. The letters gave evidence of a complete want of harmony which has existed for some time between them. Mr Sargood objected to Colonel Desney making his reports to the Governor, Sir Henry Loch, as Commander in Chief, and afterwards insisted on all communications from Colonel Desney being addressed to the Secretary of the Defence Department instead of to himself. Mr Sargood further states that he considers Colonel Desney and the other Imperial officers serving in Victoria as akin to members of the Civil Service. The Argus of this day, commenting on the correspondence, characterises Mr Sargood’s letters as intolerably offensive, arrogant, and supercilious, and considers that he exhibits a clumsy and insolent sarcasm. Adelaide, September 2. The Orient Company’s R.M.S. Sorata arrived this morning from London.
