New Zealand Mail Office, Thursday Evening. An improved week's business is reported, and the 4th has passed off fairly well. Sugar has had some inquiry and some fair sales are reported ; China sugar is receiving favor, and values of this description are much better than those of the New Zealand refined qualities ; American granulated sells well for afirst quality, at from L2B 10s to L 29 ; in yellows there is a small inquiry, principally for station requirements ; crushed loaf is quoted at L 34 to L 35. Woolpacks are selling in trade parcels at 9 s to 2s 3d; cornsacks are neglected. Teas have have had more than the average business, several good lines of medium boxes having changed hands. The Hannibal arrived during the week, and has a good shipment of salt, the bulk of which has been sold from ship’s side. We quote 50s to 55s for fine, and 70s to 75s for coarse, ex store. Soda crystals are also to hand by the same vessel, and may now be quoted at L 7 10s to L 8 per ton. Lobsters are practically out of the market ; salmon, Cocktail, is quoted at 7s 6d per doz ; other brands, from 3d to 6d per doz less ; Auckland mullet still finds inquiry at 7s 6d; red herrings are quoted at 32s 6d. Kerosene—Stocks have been replenished by thejarrival of the Katahdin. Sales, ex ship, have been reported at lid, i.b., for 130 test, and Is 2d for 150 test; for favorite brands of 150 test a little in advance of the above price is demanded; we quote duty paid, 130 test, Is 5Jd to Is 6d; 150 test, Is lOd to Is IOJd. Dried Fruits Currants are fairly well stocked ; for good samples we quote 4Jd to 4|d cases, and 4Ad casks. Eleme raisins—No sales are reported, and prices remain at 6J to 6|d. Sultanas are in fair demand, and, for really good samples, are worth Gfd. Muscatel ana Valencia raisins have had no inquiry. Colonial Produce—Flour is unchanged ; potatoes are much firmer, and now readily command 80s per ton; oats are selling freely at Is lOd to 2s 2d, according to sample; butter in the early part of thejweekj was inquired for at lid to Is ; hams and bacon, best cures, are worth 9£d and ?|d per lb, respectively ; cheese
j is very scarce, and is quoted at to 6d, but j for some very superior 6.Jd to 7d is asked.
