(united pbess association.) Auckland, May 21. In the Fiji News it is rumored that the Hoe* F. Clarke has been appointed Chief Justice of the Colony, and that his successor in the position of Attorney-General, a gentleman at present iu the West Indies, has also been nominated. Ur McGregor believes that the Natives are dying from three causes—lst, bad houses 2nd, insufficient food ; 3rd, unclean condition of the towns and bad water, and neglect of the: women and children. The Suva Times reports that an influential and well attended meeting was held at Nausori, when a resolution was carried urging upon Hia Honor the Administrator the necessity of at once reciprocating with the Colony of Victoria so fir as was compatible with theiaterests of the Colony. The Times further reports, after a very warm discussion on the subject, that a motion was carried unanimously ‘'That the subject of annexation to tfe? Colony of New Zealand is premature, and had better be left alone.” Another riot among the Polynesians has: occurred at Suva, in which several combatants, suffered, one Ambryn boy being stabbed or tomahawked from behind, receiving a severe gash on the shoulder. The frequency of these disturbances is securing for Suva a moat unenviable notoriety in this particular.
