REUTER’S TELEGRAMS . ':; s p UNION BANK DIVIDEND. London, January 21. The TJnion Bank of Australia has declared a dividend for the past halfyear at the rate of 16 per cent per annum, and carries forward and places . to reserve £39,000. ARRIVAL OF MIRZAPORE.

Arrived, at Plymouth —P. and O. steamship Mirzapore, from Melbourne (December 4.) ENGLISH MARKETS. London, January 21. Consols have advanced to 99f. New Zealand securities are unchanged. The market rate of discount has further fallen to 3-f per cent. The Bank rate is 5 per cent. Adelaide wheat, ex store, has declined to 38s; New Zealand ditto remains at 30s to 36s ; and Adelaide flour, ex store, at 265.

Australian tallow : Average quality beef, 34s ; ditto mutton, 365. The catalogue at to-day’s wool sale comprised 10,000 bales. The market is less irregular.

London, January 22. Consols remain at 99-J. The Bank rate remains at 5, and the market rate at 3f- per cent. The Bank reserve is £13,000,000, an increase of £900,000 daring the week. The proportion of the same to liabilities is 43 per cent. At to-day’s wool auction 8400 bales were offered. The sale was steady* but the demand not active. Since the opening of the series 3400 bales have been withdrawn from sale.

There are no changes to report in colonial breadstuffs or tallow.

The market- rate of discount has further fallen to 3£ per cent. The bank rate is 5 per cent. At to-day’s wool sale 10,900 bales were offered. The market is firmer for fine to finest qualities. EGYPTIAN LOAN. London, January 23. After further consideration the Cabinet has decided to accept the French counter proposals on the basis of parleying proceeding thereon. The Cabinet offers to guarantee the required loan for Egypt, but rejects the principle of a multiple control of tee Powers in that country. NEW GUINEA. _ January 24. The Daily News to-day states that England intends to annex the whole of the southern part of New Guinea. A sharp rise has taken place m nearly all colonial corporate stocks. WOOL SALES. London, January 24. At to-day’s wool sales 7300 bales were offered. The market is firm, but all descriptions of inferior and faulty wools are dull. London, January 2b. FIJI GOVERNMENT. London, January 22. Sir George Des Vceux, Governor of Fiji will return to England in February, and the Hon. J. B. Thurston, C.M.G., Colonial Secretary of Fiji, who is at present on a visit to England, will return as soon as possible to administer the Government. London, January 22. It is understood that the Hon. J. B. Thurston, Colonial Secretary of Fiji will leave on his return to Fiji about the end of March. Sir William McArthur has entertained the Hon. J. B. Thurston, Colonial Secretary of Fiji, at a banqnet. Lord Derby considers that any future action taken by England in regard to annexation will much depend upon the liberality of the colonies in the matter. Sir Saul Samuel is urging the necessity for a complete jurisdiction being established over New Guinea. THE ORIENTAL BANK.

Mr Thomas A. Welton, liquidator in the Oriental Bank estate, offers to settle the Victorian claims by paying 20s in the £ without interest.

BISMARCK AND ANNEXATION. Prince Bismarck is opposing the stringency of the annexation rules as proposed by England. The matter is to be brought before tbe forthcoming conference on Pacific affairs.
