A CANTERBURY DEFAULTER.
(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Christchurch, January 27. A. Moore, grain merchant, who is absent from the colony, has been adjudged a bankrupt, on the application of Aquilda Ivory, of Rangiora, to whom he owes £2OOO. Mr Spackman, Ivory's solicitor, said he had communication that Moore had been arrested in London at the suit of the National Bank for £12,000. Mr Deacon, solicitor for Moore, believed he was returning to the colony in the Aorangi, which was due at Port Chalmers on Friday. Ivory said that Moore had given him a security lien over 250 bales of sacks Moore said were coming to him in the Atlantic, a French ship, from Calcutta. The Atlantic has recently arrived, but there are no sacks for Moore on board. Judge Johnson said if Moore .returned, and could meet his creditors, the bankruptcy could be anuulled.
