The latest information from Hanoi is to the effect that bad weather is being experienced, which has impeded French operations. The Times, reviewing the FraneoChineae question, advocates that the English fleet iu China seas should be increased. REUTER S TELEGRAMS. (Received September 12, 1.25 a.m.) FATAL FIRE IN MELBOURNE. Melbourne, September 12. A fire took place last night at the residence of Mr Nash, in Walsh-street, South Yarra. Three children were burned to death, and a fourth is dying.
Sailed, .yesterday afternoon —Waihora, for Bluff. (Received September 12, 9 p.m.) THE FATAL FIRE AT MELBOURNE. Melbourne, September 12. It has been ascertained that four children, between the ages of twelve and four years, were burnt to-day in the fire at Walsh-street, South Yarra. The corpses, which have been recovered, are terribly charred by the fire. A fifth child, who was severely injured, is now lying in a critical condition, and is not expected to recover. VICTORIAN R.C. No change in prices has occurred Turing the week., New Zealand qats are worth 3s to 3s 2d. The market has a slightly improved tendency. London, September 11. Another severe shock of earthquakewas experinced last night in fchesouth of this colony. The sbpek was felt most distinct in the city of Goulburn. SYDNEY MORNING HERALD LIBEL CASE. A crowded and enthusiastic meeting was held at the Town Hall in this city this evening for the purpose of considering the recent action for libel and contempt of Court, in which the proprietors of the Sydney Morning Herald, were condemned to pay heavy damages. Resolutions, requesting the Legislature to amend the existing laws of libel and contempt of Court, were carried. THE SUEZ CANAL CHARGES. Paris* September 11. The Directors of the Suez Canal Company have decided to introduce from the Ist January, 1884, some modifications of the existing regulations under which the traffic through the Canal i 3 conducted. Among other things, the Company has decided to reduce the dues payable by vessels in ballast, and to undertake the charges of floating ships that may become stranded in passing * through the Canal. THE FRANCO-CHINESE DIFFICULTY. MEDIATION OF GREAT BRITAIN. The Temps, in its issue to-day, announces that the British Government has agreed to mediate between France and China for a settlement of the difficulty in Ton quin. DEATH OF ADMIRAL PIERRE. THE FATAL FIRE—ANOTHER VICTIM. A fifth child has died from injuries received at the fire in Walsh-street, South Yarra, on Tuesday.
• The Tramway Bill was read a third time in the [Legislative Council last night. MURDERS BY NATIVES IN THE SOUTH SEAS. Sydney, September 13. News has been received here that the second mate and lour of the crew of the schooner Lavinia, and a Government Agent have been murdered by the natives of Apia.
