Mr. Ward asked'that the bail : might be' reduced, biit the ' request was refused. : Mr. Ward then said that ' life hoped the Bench had not been swayed by an article which had : ’appeared in the Patea ' Mail of Thursday, and strongly animadverted upon its contents. Mr. Barleyman agreed with 'Mr. Ward, and deprecated comments oh a case Whilst before the Court. The Bench agreed ’ with the remarks made by counsel,' but stated . that they had not been influenced in any way by the comments in the newspaper alluded to. !
