A CORRECTION.
TO THE EDITOR OP THE NEW ZEALAND TIMES. Sir, —Would you kindly insert the following letter from Captain Whitwell, in reply to a sensational paragraph that appeared in the Evening Post a day or two since, to the effect that the Charles Edward and the Grafton had narrowly escaped colliding whilst navigating the French Pass.
The Charlie being a favorite passenger boat with the public, such false statements, if not contradicted, might prejudice the passenger trade very considerably.—l am, &c, CHARLf s A. Deacon, Agent Anchor Line Steam Packets.
"Wellington, Ist April; 1880. " Mr. C. A. Deacon, "Anchor Line Steam Packets, "Wellington. " Sir, —The paragraph that appeared in the Evening Post about a meeting of the s.s. Grafton and Charles Edward in the French Pass, and the consequent danger, is entirely wrong. " The steamers passed each other about a mile south of the Pass, where there is room enough for all the steamers in New Zealand to navigate without danger.—Yours, &c, " (Signed) Thomas Whitwell, "Master Chailes Edward."
