CREDITORS’ MEETINGS.

An adjourned meeting of creditors of Mr. Tonka, of the late firm of Beck and Tonka, was to have been held yesterday at the Supreme Court, to consider an application for certificate of discharge, but the meeting lapsed for want of a quorum.

A meeting of creditors of Mr. Kelly, carter, 'Wellington, was called for yesterday, but there being no quorum present, it stands adjourned till to-day. A meeting of creditors of Mr. W. F. Mason, blacksmith, Wellington, took place yesterday, Mr. Ellaby, tr ustee, occupying the chair. The trustee reported that the debtor had handed in his books, <fcc., from which it appeared that the assets would be nil. It would, however, rest with the creditors to say whether it was worth while to go to the additional expense of an accountant to go through the papers. It was doubted whether IVlessrs. Logan and Capper were justified in seizing under a bill of sale in Mountain’s estate, but Ur. Buffer's clerk was searching into the legality of the action. In reply to the chairman,' Mr. Mason explained that his father’s property was settled upon his children, but they received no benefit until they became of age. He had not backed Mr. Mountain’s bill for .£IOOO. Mr. Ellaby intimated his desire to resign the position of trustee,'but Hr. Buller explained that this could only be done in accordance with section 52 of the A ct. Mr. Hughes, one of the creditors, spoke warmly concerning bankruptcies and their moral tendencies, and denominated creditors’ meetings as a farce. Several of the creditors expressed their determination not to incur any further expense in the matter, and the meeting then broke up.
