THE WRECK OF THE HEVERSHAM.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE NEW ZEALAND MAIL. Sir, —Having read in your issue of the 17th inst. the inquiry into the cause of the wreck of the barque Heversham between Sinclair Head and Karori Bock, and judging from the decision, it appears to have been the impression of the Court that the ship struck on Tom’s Rock, and that there are no dangers outside of it. Having passed this part of the coast on my passages to and from Nelson frequently, at low water spring tides, in various steamers, for many years, I am in a position to state that Tom’s Rock is a misnomer : it should be Tom’s Reef, as the rocks extend a good distance outside of it, probably a mile, nearly straight to seaward ; and I have had this reef marked on my own chart from my own observation for several years.—l am, &c., Thos. Underwood. Arawata, s.s., June 29.
