The Customs duties received at this port for the •week ending March 23, were as under:—

In the import markets there is no change of sufficient importance to call for comment. Generally trade is rather dull, and owing to heavy stocks prices have a declining tendency, but to so trifling an extent that although at auction sales lower rates have been taken, imjjorters are holding for moderately full rates. In colonial produce butter in kegs is scarce, and the price has advanced to 13d and 14d per lb for prime cured in kegs. Cheese is worth lOd to IOJd per lb for

Canterbury make. Hams and bacon, no stocks, quotations at 13d and 14d per lb for cloth packed. Flour, stocks of Canterbury and Oamaru mills are scarce, but prices remain unaltered, we quote Canterbury £ll 5s to £ll 10s per ton ; and Oamaru, £ll 15s to £l2, for sacks in trade parcels. Oats meet with fair enquiry at 2s 4d to 2s 6d per bushel; stocks light. In the share market there is no change in quotations from last week’s report, nor do we hear of any transactions. (From Saturday’s Lyttelton Times,J Grain and Produce.—The grain market during the week has been rather dull, first hand transactions being rather limited. Wheat still continues 3s. 9d. at Christchurch, and in some instances 3s. lOd. has been paid for very prime lots. Oats are in fair demand for speculative purposes, but there are very few orders for this cereal in the market at present. Barley is very depressed, and sales are difficult ts effect at our quotations, which are nominal. A fair amount of business is doing in dairy produce. Cheese is in a little better supply, but butter is still coming to hand slowly. Manufacturers of hams and bacon report large sales during the week, and stocks are now almost exhausted. Buyers’ quotations for delivery at Christchurch railway station Wheat, 3s. 9d. to 3s. lOd.; oats, Is. 7d. to Is. 7£d.; barley, 3s. (nominal); butter, 9d. to 9&d.: cheese, 7Jd. to Bd.; grass seed, 4s. 6d. A correspondent informs us that a sale of wheat was made during the week at Kaiapoi at 4s. per bushel. Stock and Stations.—At the saleyards on Wednesday 7000 sheep and 320 head of cattle were yarded. The sheep consisted chiefly of fat cross-bred ewes and wethers. For this class prices ranged from Bs. to 12s. 6d. for best quality, making an average of a little under lid. per lb. Several pens of fat merino wethers changed hands at from 6s. 9d. to 7s. per head, but the supply of this class of sheep was not goodi A very superior line of three-quarter bred Leicester lambs sold in pens at from 6s. 3d. to Cs. 9d. per head. Several lots of inferior cross-bred lambs sold at prices varying from 3s. to 4s. per head. For old broken mouth merino ewes several lots were got rid of at from Is. 4d. to Is. 6d. per head.
