TEA MEETING AT KARORI.

The tea meeting on behalf of the. Earori and Makara Sunday schools took place on Tuesday at the Earori School House, The children met according to appointment shortly before two o’clock when they walked in prooession accompanied by their teachers as far &3 the junction of the South Makara and Makara Roads with flags. They remained there a short time for the Makara school, which was seen in the distance proceeding along the bend of the road, its approach being heralded by a blue flag. On the two schools meeting they returned together to the School house. There vere about 66 children in the procession. Op their arrival they immediately dispersed themselves over two paddocks, Messrs Toomath and Monaghan having kindly given permission. They played at cricket and, for for the first time on these occasions at Earori races for toys took placo, the boys running for whips, marbles, &o, and the girls for dolls, &c; this proved a great attraction to the juveniles.

At 4 o’clock the children adjourned to the school house where an excellent tea awaited them, to which ample justice was done. The Rev Mr Ballaehey made a short address to the children, after which they returned to their outside games: During the evening two fire balloons were sent up, which seemed to fill up any unoccupied portions of the evening until dark, when all adjourned to the school house to see the magic lantern. Before the commencement of the exhibition the Rev Mr Ballaehey and the superintendent of Ear&ri School briefly addressed the parents and children on the importance of the Sunday School. The exhibition of the magic lantern, from some mismanagement of the white sheet, was not so great a success as was desirable. The lantern and slides were excellent, but from some cause or other, the focussing was not clear, and the disc was far too small. There were fewer adults present this year than there were at the last, but the entertainment may be considered a success. There were present about 100, including children

and others,

A great boon to the scattered population of the Wharekaka is the opening of ||he Government school, which took place Im Wednesday last.
