The strike of the miners at Newcastle, says the local correspondent of the "S. M. Herald" has had the effect of completely changing the aspect of the city ; that whereas it was formerly busy and bustling, it is now quiet; that its wharves are deserted, and that the cranes are lying" idle, while there is scarcely any activity among the shipping. He speaks also about hundreds of able-bodied men living in idleness, and of the suffering* endured by many. j: . _ __
