THE DEATH OF RENFORTH.
The adjourned inquest on the body of James Ren forth took place in the Court House, St. John’s New Brunswick, before the Coroner for the district, Dr Carle. The Court met at ten o’clock, and sat all day. The medical evidence was detailed and long.—Dr M‘Laren was the first one called. He said he had, in conjunction with Dr Wade, made a post mortem examination of the deceased They found the lungs congested, but the heart and all the other organs of the body healthy. The deceased had a powerful frame, and, in his opinion, died from asphyxia, produced by congestion of the lungs. He could not, however, assign any cause for the sudden congestion.—Dr Wade, surgeon of the 78th Regiment, said he assisted Dr M‘Laren in making the post mortem examination. They found the body of deceased perfectly healthy in all parts except the lungs, whicti were congested. Death, in his opinion, had been caused by asphyxia, produced by congestion of the lungs. Great mental emotion, combined with physical exertion, might have caused the congestion of the lungs. Mr Jackson, analytical chemist, said lie had made an analysis of the contents of the stomach of the deceased, but he had not found poison in it. The Coroner summed up the evidence with great care, and after a lengthened deliberation the jury returned the following verdict:— We are of opinion that the deceased died from congestion of the lungs, which may have been caused by over-exertion in rowing in the International Boat Race —“ Newcastle Chronicle.” Ren forth was buiied on Sunday at Gateshead Cemetery. The crowd which witnessed the funeral was estimated at 100,000. Considerable damage was done to the ground,
